Farnham Creek 2014 Munford

Patricia Munford retired from federal civil service and enrolled in a pastel drawing class in September 2012.

“I thought I was going to pursue macro photography in retirement. (I) didn’t know what kind of camera I wanted. While I was working out that conundrum I decided to try this pastel studio class. After the first class I was in love with drawing with pastels!” Ms. Munford’s photographs now serve as inspiration for her drawings.

“I like working in themes, or “series.” The theme for the Hopewell Main Library July exhibit
is “Cooling Waters.” It is a compilation of drawings from two series I’m currently working on: USA and Virginia. Most of my work is landscapes but I’ve recently begun another series from earlier macro photography of vines entitled “Embraces.”

Ms. Munford graduated from Old Dominion University with a BFA in painting and worked as an illustrator and graphic designer for Norfolk Newspapers; an archeological

illustrator for Colonial Williamsburg and the Commonwealth of Virginia; and an illustrator and publication designer with the Department of Defense. While with DoD, her career took an unexpected path and for the remaining twenty years she trained logisticians. Her job required traveling worldwide which provided her with many of the photographs she draws from today.
