Librarians and staff at the Appomattox Regional Library System (ARLS) thank the public for their generous donations to the library. They welcome donations of gently used and new books. Due to space considerations, the library asks that the public restrict bringing donations to our libraries to the first week of each month. ARLS libraries have limited storage space so this schedule will give librarians and volunteers time to evaluate and process donations without overwhelming the system.
Donations are evaluated according to the Library’s collection development policy. Items that cannot be added to the collection are handled by the Friends of the Library for redistribution to the community, sale, recycling or discard. Either way, your gift benefits the library and is greatly appreciated. All proceeds from the sale of donated materials are used by the Friends to support the library and its resources and programs.
The library asks donors to observe the guidelines listed below by NOT donating:
- Magazines (please recycle at community recycling locations)
- Audio cassettes, video cassettes, record albums
- Reader’s Digest Editions
- Textbooks with a copyright of 9 years or older
- Non-Fiction items older than 5 years
- Paperbacks older than 5 years
- Please do not bring donations which are moldy, bug-infested, discolored, stained, smelly or missing pages or covers
The Hopewell/Prince George Friends of the Library have a bookstore at the Hopewell Library which operates Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Branches in Dinwiddie have ongoing book sales which are available during the hours the libraries are open.
Stop by these outlets to find wonderful books at bargain prices.
