Local History and Genealogy

The Ann K. and Preston H. Leake Local History and Genealogy Collection, located on the second floor of the Hopewell Library, consists of primary documents, photographs, and printed books on the history of Hopewell and the surrounding local area. Materials are not available for circulation but may be viewed on-site by appointment.

To make an appointment, call Jeanie Langford, Local History Room Assistant Librarian & Archivist, at the Hopewell Library (804) 458-6329 ext 2008 or email jlangford@arls.org.

The Hopewell Library also houses microfilm for the Hopewell News from 1923 - 2004 which may be viewed at the library during open hours. To access this collection, please see a librarian at the Information Desk. The Hopewell News has been digitized for your ease of use and the link can be found under the Research tab. For your convenience, there is an Obituary Index for the Hopewell News for this date range. The index lists last name, first name, the date the obituary was published (which is generally not the same as date of death), and the page in the paper where the obituary can be found.
