Computer Classes

Computer classes are available at the library on a recurring basis.

All classes are free and open to the public.

Registration is required to attend.

Available Classes

Computer Basics
This class is intended for beginners and covers basic topics such as identifying parts of the computer, keyboard typing, and how to use a mouse. Participants practice word processing, perform Internet searches, and create an email account.
Microsoft Word Basics
Participants review features of Microsoft Word, the most widely used word processing software. Cut-and-paste, spell check, and templates are explored. Many of the tool bars are covered.
Internet & Email Basics
Participants review the basics of navigating the Web, using Google to find topics and images, creating an email account, and sending and receiving messages and attachments via email.
Microsoft Excel Basics
This class serves as an introduction to this widely used spreadsheet software. Participants create a basic household budget spreadsheet, use basic math formulas, and begin to explore Excel’s ability to create charts and graphs.
Microsoft Excel Intermediate
This class is intended for students who have basic computer skills and are familiar with Microsoft Excel terminology and concepts. The student will learn how to organize and manipulate data using Excel’s functions, sorting, and subtotaling capabilities. Students will also explore more fully Excel’s tables and graphs capabilities.
Microsoft PowerPoint Basics
This class is an introduction to this widely used visual slide software. Participants will create their own basic PowerPoint presentation.
Career Transitions Workshop
The primary focus of this workshop is resume building, though participants are also guided step-by-step through several features of the Career Transitions tool, including career interest assessment, educational options, and job searches.
Online Genealogy Workshop
Participants will be guided through a hands-on search in the computer lab using HeritageQuest® Online and/or Ancestry® Library Edition. Some computer experience is required.
