Prince George Library GRAND OPENING

Tour the new Prince George Library this Saturday starting at 10:00 am.

Join us Saturday, July 23rd starting at 10:00 am as we open the Prince George Library! The Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremony for the new Library will begin at 10 a.m.

Grand opening festivities will include remarks by county officials, the chair of the ARLS Board of Trustees, and members of the community followed by the ribbon cutting.  Throughout the day, families are encouraged to come and enjoy refreshments, library tours and a 12:00 pm appearances by storyteller Jane Crouse who will entertain kids and adults with Amazing Tales!  Youth will also spot the Cat in the Hat and MacGruff the crime dog who will be available for photographs.

Make some Magic at the Hopewell and McKenney Libraries

Join us Monday, July 18th at 11:00am at the Hopewell Library and 3:30pm at the McKenney Library.  Fun for the young and the young at heart alike. Note: There will be no story time at Hopewell Library morning because of the magic show.

Discover Amazing Civil War History at the Dinwiddie and Hopewell Libraries!

Stop by the Dinwiddie and Hopewell Libraries on Thursday, July 7th to learn about Amazing Civil War History right here in Dinwiddie and Hopewell.  Sit back and enjoy a program about submarines and aircraft carriers floating along the James, as well as ironclads and gunboats anchored off City Point.  Its 1861 and the War Between the States has come to Dinwiddie and Hopewell. Listen to the stories of what happens to homes when war reaches Southside.  Look at soldier’s “traps” and civilian “wraps”and lots more.  You will also hear how “Beefsteak” became a favorite dinner in Prince George!

Jazz Up Your Summer at the Dinwiddie and Hopewell Libaries!

Get your toes a tappin’!

ARLS welcomes the Ft. Lee Dixieland Band at two of our locations Tuesday, June 28th! Stop by the Dinwiddie Library at 2:30pm and the Hopewell Library at 4:30pm to enjoy a performance of great music in the New Orleans Dixieland style. The performance at the Dinwiddie Library will be held inside the Historic Dinwiddie County Courthouse adjacent to the library. ARLS would like to thank the Dinwiddie Historical Society for their generosity in hosting this event.

Summer Reading Programs Kick Off June 20th!

 

ARLS invites you to start your summer off right with our Summer Reading Programs for children, teens, and adults June 20th – August 12th at all ARLS  locations!

The Richmond Flying Squirrels’ mascot, Nutzy, will be stopping by to meet and greet children of all ages at Hopewell Library Tuesday, June 21st at 2:30 pm and the Carson Library at 4:00pm.

Don’t forget your camera and autograph book as we host this local celebrity who’s coming to entertain us all!

Summer Art and Chemistry Classes at the Burrowsville School

Looking for a fun educational opportunity over the summer?

Sign Up for Art and Chemistry classes at the Burrowsville School!  Students must be ages 6-10 and have completed any grade 1-5 at a Prince George County school.

Registration deadline is June 17th. Registration form and full details can be found here: Burrowsville Summer Classes 2011.

 

Art Classes will be held July 11-14th from 9-11:30am.

Stay after class on Thursday July 14th as the Appomattox Regional Library presents storyteller Jane Crouse, who will share amazing stories from around the world.

Chemistry Classes will be held July 25-28th from 9-11:30am.

Stay after class for an Amazing Egyptian Cartouche craft as part of the Appomattox Regional Library’s Summer Reading Program for youth.

Special One Day Scholastic Book Fair

To Benefit the New Prince George Library

The Woman’s Club of Prince George County is sponsoring a one day Scholastic Book Fair at South Elementary School on Friday, May 27, 2011. Proceeds from this very special event will go toward the purchase of new  books for the Children’s Book Collection at the New Prince George Library. Book Fair Open 8am-5pm.

“Before They Were Movies” Film Series

Join the Appomattox Regional Library System for our “Before They Were Movies” film series THIS Thursday, May 19th. We will be showing a movie of your choice at the Hopewell Library starting at 4:30 pm. Popcorn and lemonade will be served.

Those who arrive first will get to choose which of our books-turned-movies film we’ll see… Will it be a movie about the adventures of a teenage demi-god? A film about dragons or princesses? Or maybe one about night-time adventures at a museum. YOU decide!
