
Adult Summer Reading Program 2010
The Scoop

- Register at any ARLS library. Registration begins May 17th.
- Record the books you read in the Book Log you receive at registration.
- Attend Book Team Meetups for extra credit (see more below).
- Turn in completed Book Log(s) no later than August 31 for prizes.
- Participate online by contributing comments to book reviews.
Prizes
Participation Prize: “Water Your Mind READ” Mug
(limit one per participant)
How to earn:
- Read 5 books OR
- Read 3 books and attend one Book Team Meetup
Prize Drawings: $100 , $50, and $25 gift cards
Drawing will be conducted September 3rd. Winners will be notified by the contact information provided in the submitted book log.
How to enter:
- For one entry, complete one Book Log.
- To qualify for the grand prize ($100), you must attend at least one Book Team Meetup.
- Each additional Book Log (5 books) will earn you an extra entry in the drawing.
- Each additional Book Team attendance will earn you an extra entry in the drawing.
Special Event
Come hear author Michelle Young-Stone discuss her debut novel The Handbook for Lightning Strike Survivors Thursday, July 29th at 7pm at the Hopewell Library. Read the review by Librarian Chris Wiegard for more information.
Book Teams
Pick a team, hang out with others who like the same kinds of reads & earn extra credit towards prizes! This summer we will feature five special Book Teams that will read three books each with a “meetup” for each book. Stop by the library to check out your preferred books or place a copy on hold through the catalog or by calling 804-458-6329 x1005. Click on the book title below to view the book in the catalog, or click on the Book Team name to see all three books for the team.
(Note: Attendance at any of our regular Book Groups will also count towards participation.)
“Literary Lite” led by Chris Wiegard

Literary fiction usually involves the masterful use of character, plot, dialogue, and setting by a novelist. In our “Literary Lite” reading team, join Librarian Chris Wiegard as we read very recent books that blend literary ability with dramatic but very readable stories, uncovering talented new writers!
