Appomattox Regional Library System is pleased to offer a new computer class program for the public that will be taught on a regular basis throughout the year. Each series of courses will be offered 3 times a year and will consist of classes taught on

All courses are held in the Hopewell Library HMA room at 6:00PM (unless otherwise noted), and are free and open to the public…no registration required!
Beginner Computer Series
This series is for brand new users who have never used a computer or are just starting to learn how to use one. It will be assumed that students already know how to type as this skill will NOT be covered. If you already know how to use a computer, you are too advanced for this series.
Sept. 4 6:00PM Overview of Computer Hardware & Software – Learn about the different pieces of computer equipment and what they do, and what a program is and how it works.
Sept. 11 6:00PM Navigating & Using Windows Operating Systems - Learn how to properly start up and shut down your computer, and how to navigate around your desktop and start menu and other parts of the Microsoft Windows operating system.
Sept. 18 6:00PM File Management - Create, move, rename, and delete files and folders. Learn about the different types of files and how to organize them within the computer.
Beginner Internet Series
This series is for users who already feel comfortable on a computer in general, but would like to learn more about using the internet and email. If you are a brand new computer user, please take the Beginner Computer Series before taking this one. It will be assumed that students already have basic computer skills when taking this course.
Oct. 2 6:00PM Intro to the Internet - Learn about the internet, what equipment you need to get online, basic searching techniques, and online security and safe browsing.
Oct. 9 6:00PM Advanced Internet Searching – Learn about advanced searching techniques and Boolean logic, how to manage bookmarks and favorites, and setting a homepage.
Oct. 16 6:00PM Intro to Email - Learn about how email works, and set up an email account of your very own! We will help everyone create a new email account, and then practice sending, receiving, and organizing emails. Other topics may include email attachments, contact lists, and creating folders.
Office Software Series
This series is for users who already feel comfortable on a computer in general, but would like to learn more about office software programs. If you are a brand new computer user, please take the Beginner Computer Series before taking this one. It will be assumed that students already have basic computer skills when taking this course.
Nov. 6 6:00PM Word Processing – Learn the basics of word processing, how to create, edit, save, print, and delete a document, and practice using word processing software.
Nov. 13 6:00PM Spreadsheets (Class will be held in the Quiet Room) – Learn the basics of spreadsheets, how to create, edit, save, print, and delete a spreadsheet, and practice using spreadsheet software.
Nov. 20 6:00PM Slide Presentations - Learn the basics of slide presentations, how to create, edit, save, print, and delete a presentation, and practice using slide presentation software.
