They may seem too simplistic or too ubiquitous for some, but the Idiot’s Guide series offers up a lot of good information. This book on volunteer recruitment and management is no exception. Written by the CEO of PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support), Recruiting & Managing Volunteers walks the reader through reasons people volunteer, how to use the Internet for recruitment, techniques for retention, and even how to fire volunteers when necessary. You’ll find a lot of great information throughout the book’s 274 pages. Don’t miss the Appendix, which lists many useful Web sites, suggestions for further reading, and even a couple of free downloadable publications. Check it out.
